Role Purpose

The Business Analyst I (BA I) demonstrates ability in IT analysis methodologies to elicit and document business requirements for IT solutions. The requirements can be understood by both business and technology stakeholders to improve the effectiveness of the business functions by evolving and changing technology solutions in concert with the changing business strategy. The BA I ensures requirements are consistent with the business case and the long-term vision of the business. The BA also develops system specifications and tests configuration changes to ensure they are consistent with business processes, driving resolution of any potential defects where necessary. To be successful in the BA I role, the incumbent must have skills and qualifications for this role that include: Basic knowledge of technologies relevant to the engagements assigned; Basic knowledge of the business functional area that is supported (e.g., finance, labortory services), and possess Advanced Micorsoft desktop product proficiency, strong analytical and excellent communication skills (staff at all levels, customers and other IT personnel) are required.


  • Using IT analysis methodologies, including Process flow definition and data flow diagramming, defines, documents, and analyze business requirements and their impacts to the overall business case and their alignment with IT’s strategic objectives, and communicate this information effectively to both IT and business stakeholders.
  • Retain and maintain requisite business knowledge to prioritize business requests and provide insight to the business for how to leverage existing functionality across service lines.
  • Utilize process knowledge to understand system enhancement impacts on BJC processes and how system functions and processes will generate information and intended outcomes for the business.
  • Participate in the development of user acceptance testing plans, scripts, and associated documentation and review and approve documentation/results produced by others. Act as a resource to carry out test plans and operations as required.
  • Support delivery of the requisite business requirements identified by solution engineers and others in the design and architect of processes, systems and information.
