Role Purpose

The Inventory Planner is responsible for coordinating the supply planning process with all departments across the system. This position is responsible for managing the inventory levels to the agreed upon targets from leadership for Supply Plus and hospital department directors, as well as the replenishment for all demand requirements of each item in BJC's item master. Additionally, this position maintains fill rate and service level targets to ensure inventory is at optimal levels. This position also provides periodic reporting to finance and leadership on departmental inventory levels.


  • Coordinate with Supply Plus organizations, hospital functional areas to facilitate planning, replenishment, and safety/cycle stock levels of inventory. This includes coordinating bulk buys and system wide conversations under utilization management efforts.
  • Maintain or reduce inventory levels, as agreed to by leadership, through data analysis. Recommend and change planning parameters to achieve inventory reductions while not exposing business to risk of supply disruptions due to lack of supply. Evaluate safety stock levels and conduct analysis to determine the financial impact of increasing or decreasing safety stock at both hospital and system levels.
  • Participate in overall Distribution Strategy sessions and help in the decision making process for long term planning. Provide analysis and insights regarding inventory strategy and planning through insight from the healthcare provider and supplier space across the nation.
  • Demonstrate solid decision making capabilities regarding allocating inventory across the network and prioritizing inventory to achieve target SLAs, as well as communicating and advising on best tactics to mitigate risks and impacts of supply disruptions in the market.
