    Neuroscience nursing at Barnes-Jewish Hospital offers rewarding and challenging opportunities on two neuro medicine floors, a neurosurgical step-down unit as well as a 20-bed neuro intensive care unit. Our Neuro ICU is one of the nation's largest and most sophisticated neurological neurosurgical intensive care unit, treating and researching conditions that include strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, subdural and epidural hematomas, intraparenchymal hemorrhages, traumatic brain injuries, brain tumors, neuro-muscular diseases and spinal injuries. ; As a major teaching hospital, Barnes-Jewish is continually advancing the neurosciences.     Overview


    Role Purpose

    Provides expertise in the application of the nursing process and theory in the area of acute stroke and cerebrovascular care. Consistently supports the complex network of multiple disciplines and facilities that work in concert to provide high quality care serving as an external resource for staff in all departments. Effectively manages a nationally recognized Comprehensive Stroke Center Network.


    Responsibilities

  • Manages operations of Stroke Network Services and integration with other facilities and departments.
  • Participates in building an effective stroke network through physician and hospital relations outreach.
  • Leads the professional education efforts of the stroke network program to provide acute stroke specific education to nurses, paramedics, physicians and others in acute stroke care in conjunction with community area health providers.
  • Identifies and targets appropriate physician practices and hospitals in Missouri and Illinois for increased stroke network support from the hospital.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
