BJC Corporate Health Services, the occupational medicine organization within BJC HealthCare, externally supports employers and employees of the St. Louis metropolitan area with three full-service BarnesCare clinics that provide expert physicals, surveillance, injury/exposure evaluation and treatment. Specialized services include contract management of work-related injury care for BJC hospitals, independent medical exams, traveler's health, on-site services, care management, toxicology support and two 24/7 hotlines for body substance exposures and emergency room coordination of work-related care. BJC Corporate Health Services provides occupational health support for BJC employees through on-site and virtual oversight including administration of workers' compensation. BJC Corporate Health Services also manages the BJC WellAware fitness center, which extends fitness opportunities with on-site classes at BJC hospitals throughout the metropolitan area. In 2010, BJC Corporate Health Services became the first and only St. Louis occupational medicine provider quality-certified by the National Association of Occupational Health Providers.


Overview


Role Purpose

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) ensures high quality, patient-centered care by leading clinical and quality initiatives that support the provision of consistent clinical performance and practice standards across the hospital. The CMO provides senior-level leadership to the infection control, risk management, safety, and medical staff credentialing functions, ensuring the collaboration and coordination of all stakeholders in these processes. The CMO facilitates the analysis of quality performance and prioritization improvement opportunities and consults on an array of issues involving physicians. The CMO also contributes to overall hospital strategy and service line development to ensure quality management and promote optimum patient experience. Plans, coordinates, and oversees the medical affairs of a hospital(s). Works to align medical staff goals with those of the system. Ensures medical staff comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Utilize data analytics, business intelligence, and predictive analytics to identify areas of opportunity and drive change. Create an environment of safety, cost consciousness, and continuous improvement that is data driven.
  • Represent medical staff viewpoints to management and relays management viewpoints to medical staff by establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships between BJC/Christian Hospital leadership, community, BJCMG and WUSM physicians. Collaborate, network, learn and share best practices with other BJC CMOs that improves the overall physician and quality initiatives at Christian and BJC.
  • Provide leadership of physician engagement and BJC system integration activities. Serve as a resource/thought leader to the director of Business Development and President in physician recruitment, clinical program development, and overall hospital strategy.
  • Utilize outcome management techniques to monitor and improve care, quality, and safety. Serves as a spokesperson for evidence-based clinical practice, patient safety, and risk management to BJC/CH leadership and clinicians.
  • Interact with all members of the Executive team on a consistent basis. Seek problem solving relationships with all clinical leaders (i.e. nursing, physicians). Interact with a diverse patient population by having listening sessions with the community to improve clinical services.
