Role Purpose

The Executive Director of Epic partners jointly with BJC HealthCare (BJC) and Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) to provide technical leadership of the Epic clinical application. This position works closely with the EPIC Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) and oversees execution of application development, optimization and service delivery to ensure key business priorities and strategic initiatives are achieved. The Executive Director creates and maintains strong relationship through facilitating collaborative communication between clinical leadership, the application teams, vendors and other technology resources to ensure optimal service delivery with Epic’s core clinical applications and complementing solutions.


  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Provides effective technical leadership of the Epic application development and service delivery including life cycle management, enhancements, and optimization. Manages Epic vendor relationship and proactively resolves issues encountered by working with all levels of personnel both internal and external to BJC and WUSM.
  • Partners with the EPIC CMIO to evaluate new Epic technologies/software that will provide opportunities for solutions or new applications necessary to deliver increased value to the business and accomplish BJC/WUSM organization goals, objectives and strategies.
  • In partnership with Epic CMIO, works with BJC and WUSM governance processes to appropriately manage demand, prioritize work efforts and stage resource allocation.
  • Collaborates with key clinical, business and technology leaders to improve Epic adoption and efficiencies. Develops and fosters strong relationships and lines of communications with key stakeholders such as executives, department leaders and other key customers. Works collaboratively with BJC and WUSM technology leaders to uphold seamless system integration with corresponding clinical and non-clinical applications and infrastructure.
  • Leads an integrated, service-oriented team, comprised of both BJC and WUSM resources, that deliver process and operational improvements to meet and/or exceed key organizational performance indicators.
