Role Purpose

The Director of Business Architecture reports directly to the VP, IT Business Engagement and leads a team of Business Architects to help prepare the business to become resilient and future-fit. The position is responsible for all the Business Architecture activities such as capability and journey maps, economic valuations, gaps and business models. They work closely with strategy and business leaders to create alignment between business and IT. The Director of Business Architecture clarifies strategic intentions, identifies business outcomes, explores implications, impacts and risks, and addresses stakeholders’ questions. This function creates deliverables for business leaders that support organizational change and investments in response to disruptive forces and toward achieving targeted business outcomes. The business architect facilitates discussion around the construction of business models, which may include technology, business capabilities, value-streams and processes and other key business architecture deliverables. The business architect helps strategy and business leaders understand, apply, monetize and operationalize existing, new, and emerging technologies to transform and optimize business and operating models.


Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Assesses the disruptive forces impacting the organization and the economic and financial levers that are susceptible within the organization to digital transformation and optimization. Engages key business stakeholders to identify business and technology-enabled innovation opportunities that enable and drive business strategy. Focuses on growing revenue, optimizes costs, and mitigates risks. Leverages the best practices of continuous foresight, innovation and futurism to continuously test business models and strategies, and determine how to adjust either or both to become resilient and future-fit.
  • Accountable for the development and maintenance of BJC business capability roadmap and standards, and the development of architecture models that demonstrate how BJC’s current and future business models will drive IT needs. Utilizes a toolbox of business architecture deliverables to help business leaders identify and make IT investment decisions. Deliverables include, but are not limited to, business-outcome-statements, strategy on a page, scenario planning, business capability modeling, value-streams mapping, business process models, ecosystems modeling, customer and user profiling, journey maps, human-centric design and investment roadmaps.
  • Collaborates with Enterprise Architecture to achieve tight integration between business strategy, business and capability models and technology platforms and technologies architectures and economics.
  • Provides internal management consultancy services to business leaders, business units and lines of business, helping them with design thinking, business modeling, ecosystem modeling, innovation management, IT investment analysis, and operating model design. Transforms the organizational approach to innovation by creating cross-functional or fusion teams and using the flexible approaches such as design thinking.
  • Develops and manages the business architecture’s prioritized capability needs that focus on achieving strategic priorities.
