Role Purpose

The Director, Anchor Initiatives is based in the Office of Community Health Improvement at BJC HealthCare and reports to the Vice President of Community Health Improvement. The director and team are characterized by a deep commitment to community health improvement, enthusiasm, accountability, solution and outcomes orientation, cross-functional collaboration, data-driven decision making, diversity, equity, and inclusion. In close coordination with internal and external stakeholders, the director will be responsible for the design, execution, and evaluation of anchor initiatives to achieve sustainable impact in addressing social determinants of health.


  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Working with internal stakeholders from human resources, supply chain, construction, IT, finance and other relevant business units, manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of anchor initiatives focused on local and inclusive hiring, procurement, and investment.
  • Maintains productive partnerships and working relationships with external stakeholders, including workforce development, educational, and community and economic development organizations to advance the anchor strategy.
  • Directs the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to anchor strategy targets and outcomes and communicates the impact of anchor initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supports the participation of BJC HealthCare in regional and national networks of anchor institutions.
