Role Purpose

The director, reporting to the Vice President, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, will drive efforts towards BJC’s efforts to establish diversity, equity and inclusion as a strategic priority and core value. Playing a leadership role in the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI), leads the development of programs promoting consistency of diversity, equity and inclusion with an eye towards delivering a positive impact on the organization, its employees and the community. The Director leads a dynamic, multidisciplinary team that provides and facilitates cultural competence and inclusion education, quality assessment/improvement, and consultation services in addressing health literacy and health services equity. The director drives to a goal of identifying and addressing health care disparities and barriers to inclusion.


  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Facilitates, and participates in, a collaborative relationship with human resources teams to positively impact recruitment, retention and advancement or our diverse workforce, fostering a culture of inclusion.
  • Develops a collaborative, inclusive working relationship with the local community, referral sources, medical providers, families and BJC HealthCare staff.
  • In collaboration with and with the support of the VP, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, drives BJC-wide efforts to develop an environment that is welcoming to all, without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, language, abilities/disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geographic region and other personal characteristics.
  • Ensures that quality improvement activities are linked to strategic initiatives, facilitating, participating in and monitoring a system of continuous quality improvement to assure all operations and services are performed consistently with quality standards.
  • Ensures effective coordination and collaboration with other departments and medical staff in BJC hospitals and service organizations.
