BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 6,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron and Washington counties.  As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.  BJC Behavioral Health also administers the BJC Employee Assistance Program ad Behavioral Health Partners, an administrative services organization.


Overview


Role Purpose

Responsible for assisting the Manager of the Community Support Program at Independence Center in the management of the delivery and outcomes of Community Support Services. Oversees Community Support operations and effectiveness.
Collaborates with external community agencies and all other Independence Center programs to coordinate care of community support participants while aligning with Independence Center values and philosophy. Monitors staff performance to assure all functions are met and positive outcomes for participants are achieved.
Assures that the program and work of the Community Support Specialists are in compliance with the Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation regulations from the Department of Mental Health, state Medicaid regulations and the accreditation standards from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).


Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Demonstrates professional leadership to achieve the goals in accordance with Independence Center philosophy as well as within guidelines of licensing and accrediting bodies. Completes Mytime and payroll approval for all direct reports. Coordinates schedules of community support staff to assure participant needs are met while balancing time off, sick days, training, onboarding, and organizational commitments.
  • Monitors and supports Community Support Specialists ability to collaboratively complete documentation timely, and with quality through the electronic health record while in compliance with DMH and CARF. Assures the Community Support Specialists meet engagement expectations with participants.
  • Mentors Community Support Specialists in developing trusting relationships and good rapport with participants. Teaches Community Support Specialists to value self determination and participant strengths in partnering with them to meet their treatment objectives. Supports Community Support Specialists in developing exemplary crisis management and community safety skills.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with outside agencies and represents Independence Center professionally, helping to connect with community resources and initiate referral sources. Assists Manager with meeting external engagements that directly impact the provision of community support services. Reinforces the developing knowledge of community resources with Community Support Specialists to benefit participants.
  • Assists Community Support Specialists in integrating all new initiatives, including, but not limited to: Wellness Coaching, Zero Suicide, and Trauma Informed Care practices into their direct provision of services. Assures training needs of Community Support Specialists are met through referral and facilitation.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
