    Overview


    Role Purpose

    This position is responsible for the daily oversight in planning, organizing, developing, and supervising the overall operation of the Office of Decedent Affairs Department (ODA). Reports directly to the Office of Decedent Affairs Manager.


    Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain oversight of all morgues across BJC Healthcare system to ensure appropriate census levels and completion of necessary documentation and tracking of descendants. Directs and coordinates activities surrounding process for viewing. Will ensure proper protocol for preservation and sanitation for indigent cases. Primary informant and acting liaison for indigent decedent cases in partnership with HSO Risk Management and Legal Dept. Will adhere to proper legal protocol to seek legal next of kin, process all cremation/burial paperwork, process death certificate, act as funeral director for decedent if burial is needed.
  • Provides oversight of all fetal and adult demise cases with regards to autopsy, surgical/pathology death certificate, and release to funeral homes.
  • Provide training and continual education to ODA staff for ODA Chain of Custody Demise Tracking system. Assist all departments within BJH on education of the system. Work directly with ODA Manager to identify best practices for streamline workflow.
  • Provides detailed reporting and communication updates to ODA manager, physicians, medical examiner, and funeral directors, such as, but not limited to: Missouri Vital Records Statistics, Missouri Electronic Vital Records Death Certificates, and Medical Examiner reports for deaths other than natural.
  • Assists with researching, evaluating, selecting, and implementing systems which improve efficiency of work and integrates services throughout the organization.
  • Develops and delivers training to ODA staff, including but not limited to onboarding, orientation and ongoing skills enhancements.
  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
