Supports the delivery and administration of BJC's comprehensive health & welfare and other general benefits programs to ensure that BJC retains its competitive status in the marketplace.


Role Purpose

The Director of Benefits is an integral member of the Total Rewards team and is primarily responsible for the overall design, implementation, communication, and administration of the organization's health & welfare and retirement benefits programs


  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • This leadership position will work closely with the VP Total Rewards on developing long-term strategy while gaining insights and alignment from HR and organizational leaders to develop solutions and new approaches to maintain the competitiveness of the benefits programs.
  • Regularly assess the external competitiveness of the company’s benefit programs to ensure the plans remain affordable and continue to drive the talent strategy.
  • Provides oversight in the administration of benefits programs, annual enrollment process, eligibility, COBRA administration, communication and compliance.
  • Manages vendor relationships to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant administration of benefit programs.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory needs including but not limited to ERISA, COBRA, ACA and HIPAA by staying up to date on regulatory changes to ensure proper administration.
  • Develops and manages the communication strategy for benefits programs to create overall awareness and understanding of how the plans work.
