    The Surgical Specialty Clinic consists of a total of 13 clinics - Ortho Spine, Ortho Trauma, Ortho Recon, Ortho Foot and Ankle, Ortho Hand, Plastic Hand, Plastic Recon, General Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, ENT-Head and neck, ENT plastics, and Otology.¿ The clinic runs ¿ day to whole day clinics Monday thru Friday from 0800-1700.¿ We are closed on weekends and major holidays.¿¿¿ The staff consists of RNs, Clerical, and the Resident Physicians who rotate through our clinic for their outpatient educational experience.¿ The clinic sees about 13, 000 patients a year.¿ We treat a range a medical problems from fractures, minor excisions, evaluations for surgery, etc.


    Overview

    Role Purpose

    The Medical Assistant (MA) provides patient care under the direction of a specialty physician or other licensed provider. Performs select duties for the promotion of health in the care of patients and delivers care according to practice protocols and procedures. Serves as an experienced, senior level Medical Assistant in a specialty area within a practice, such as Cardiology, ENT, Neurology, Orthopedics, etc.

    Responsibilities

  • Cleans and prepares exam room for patients.
  • Obtains vital signs, patient history and maintains accurate and prompt charting in the patient's record.
  • Performs clinical skills, such as phlebotomy, EKGs, point-of-care testing and injections.
  • Triage calls, provide test and lab results to patients and present relevant information to provider.
  • Assists specialty provider by preparing patients for exams, procedures and treatments. Explains procedures, treatments and medications to enhance patient understanding.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
