Facilities Engineering maintains 6 million square foot of facilities dedicated to clinical and academic functions. Facilities Engineering is comprised of 150 professionals, including engineers, MEP mechanics, building finishes and support staff. The Facilities and Engineering department at Barnes Jewish Hospital is a progressive, innovative department which stresses employee involvement, continued education/training and opportunities for advancement. Consistent customer and staff satisfaction surveys reflect a continuous rating in the upper 90% and staff responses to ""intent to continue employment at BJH"" rating in the upper 90%.


Overview


Role Purpose

Responsible for planning, coordinating and managing of all Engineering and Utility related functions of the Hospital. Functions include design review of major construction projects, coordination of the department's infrastructure upgrade/replacement program, re-design of existing mechanical/electrical systems and equipment, investigative studies and the budgeting and management of the Hospital's utilities (natural gas, electric, sewer and water).


Responsibilities

  • Directs operations and integrates services within the work unit and with other departments by creating effective work plans.
  • Identifies and recommends optimal staffing levels necessary to effectively manage work unit's services.
  • Assists with writing business and communication plans that identify and support the department's strategies in support of the hospital's strategic business plans and system initiatives.
  • Partners with hospital leadership and provides feedback and expertise in regards to plans for major construction projects.
  • Keeps equipment clean and operational. Handles and disposes of hazardous and or infectious waste properly and practices infection control. Adheres to regulatory guidelines.
  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

    Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • - Architecture/Business/related

     

    Experience

  • 5-10 years
