Role Purpose

This position requires thorough understanding of an employer’s obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended (ADA) and similar MO and IL laws. Responsible for design and implementation of a program addressing BJC accommodation obligations. Responsible for development of standard processes, documentation, decision and governance model, with a tracking system to ensure effective capture of approved and denied accommodation requests for risk mitigation, proposing revisions to BJC’s Disability Accommodations Policy as needed, and continuous analysis of ADA compliance across BJC. Serve as the liaison for the employee, employer and BJC’s third party leave administrator, and is required to exercise reasonable and independent judgment in overseeing, coordinating, and promoting ADA and related issues to ensure a final decision is reached and communicated that is ADA compliant. Provide consultative and educational information to HR and Management regarding process and considerations around ADA. This position will work closely with the Employee, Manager, HRBP, TA, Occ. Health, Ergonomics, and the Legal Team as applicable to promote an effective interactive dialogue and to reach a decision regarding the organization’s ability to provide the requested accommodation or an effective alternative.


Responsibilities

  • Serves as a “single point of contact” for our ADA employees, managers and HR Business Partners regarding questions related to ADA, and leave management procedures. Must maintain knowledge of various state and federal regulations. Provides consultation and education to Managers, HR Business Partners, and Employees about their stay at work, return to work, or not returning to work as it relates to ADA considerations.
  • Responsible for design and implementation of the framework of the ADA program within BJC. This will include development of standard processes, documentation, decision and governance model, and a tracking system to ensure effective capture of approved and denied requests for risk mitigation. Works with internal stakeholders to define internal procedures for filing, responding to and investigating ADA related requests.
  • Manage the interaction between the employee, manager, HR Business Partner and leaves vendor to ensure compliance with ADA guidelines and a final decision and communications are shared. This process includes, but is not limited to, obtaining the appropriate forms to be signed, providing education about the manager’s and employee’s responsibility in obtaining assistance, and facilitating discussions as needed to reach agreement on action plans that align to ADA guidelines. Responsible and accountable for maintaining and protecting personal health information. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and abide by HIPPA rules and regulations.
  • Ensure proper documentation and tracking of all reasonable accommodations received orally or in writing from within a tracking system. Provide oversight and assure timely processing and responses to accommodations requests. Ensure consistent and timely responses, letters/correspondence and transactions.
  • Lead analysis of ADA compliance and risk across BJC. Identifying any potential gaps or areas for continuous improvement to ensure compliance and reduce or mitigate risk. Partner with internal stakeholders and vendor to continually improve program and strengthen ADA awareness and knowledge across BJC.
  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
