Role Purpose

The success of St. Louis Children’s Hospital Foundation depends on the Foundation’s ability to identify, cultivate and sustain 1:1 relationships with individuals and institutions having the propensity and financial resources to support our mission. The Director, Relationship Management leads a team of individuals whose purpose is to be strategic philanthropic advisors to individual donors and connectors between those individuals and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer.


  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Provides leadership to a team and the organization in the areas of 1) conducting the team’s activities with integrity and transparency; 2) demonstrating collaboration across the organization; 3) approaching all activities with a strategic mindset; 4) demonstrating innovation by projecting how ideas may play out in the marketplace and managing the creative process of others; and 5) steadfastly pushes self and others for results.
  • Partners with Strategic Finance & Operations to 1) collaborate in the development of processes that enhance donors’ experience in transacting with the Foundation, 2) actively manage the department’s budgeted revenue and expenses, and 3) nimbly make strategic decisions about investment opportunities within the department and across the organization.
  • Responsible for management of philanthropic relationships with key external and internal stakeholders (individual donors; third-party fundraisers; boards; employees; grateful families; physicians). Holds direct revenue responsibility for Major Gifts, Planned & Estate Giving and Third Party/Turnkeys.
  • Partners with Audience & Channel Strategies to develop 1) a pipeline of net new and recurring monthly donors to the organization through Annual Giving, and 2) a comprehensive, single view of each donor and help inform enterprise wide donor stewardship strategies.
  • Partners with Donor Engagement & Experience to create marketing materials, special events and funding proposals that meet donor needs for current information, ongoing and deepening engagement with the mission and philanthropic investment opportunities that align with personal values and charitable goals.
