    Overview


    Role Purpose

    Develops, plans and instructs patients in academic areas or educational concepts. Serves as an educational liaison between school and hospital environment.


    Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the development of self control and a healthy self concept by using positive guidance techniques and encouraging responsibility and respect.
  • Communicates effectively by being friendly, nurturing, and building bonds with children, by providing daily written documentation and keeping children’s portfolios current to keep parents informed of their child’s progress, and by building positive relationships with families.
  • Provides a child-centered learning environment which supports the child's developmental, physical, and educational needs.
  • Ensures a safe and developmental environment for all children, families, and staff, complying with all program and regulatory guidelines and policies.
  • Helps hospitalized children maintain their academic standing with classmates in their home school while serving as an educational liaison and resource between parents, the unit and home school for patients. Coordinates educational discharge teaching needs to guardians, home school and physicians.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
