Role Purpose

The Insurance Program Manager is responsible for the daily operation of select BJC Health System risk financing/insurance programs, which includes professional liability, workers’ compensation (excess and guaranteed cost), auto, aviation, environmental, liquor liability and PGLC Errors and Omissions. This position manages joint venture insurance programs that includes Telecommunications, Gamma Knife, and Heart Care Institute. This position also identifies and analyzes risk exposures and determines appropriate risk transfer mechanisms working directly with brokers, underwriters and insurance carriers under the direction of the Director of Insurance and Risk Financing. Additionally, the Insurance Program Manager reviews, analyzes and submits workers’ compensation data and assessments in order to maintain workers’ compensation self-insurance authority for the states of IL and MO.


  • Manages all aspects of many of BJC’s insurance programs, which includes operational responsibility and insurance renewal processes for insurance program representing approximately 43% ($5.5M) of insurance premiums across the organization; presents recommendations to senior management; makes independent financial decisions with regard to insurance placement on a regular basis.
  • Assists in the development, analysis, and assessment of financial aspects of insurance programs to identify and mitigate risk exposures to the system that may cause loss.
  • Independently manages and monitors compliance with various state workers’ compensation program self-insurance requirements, including qualifications, data analysis, reporting, and tax assessment filings totaling more than $1.1M annually.
  • Manages commercial auto program claims and event reporting processes; provides direction to insurance carrier, 3rd party auto claims administrator and outside counsel with regard to claims actions and resolution.
  • Implements and coordinates loss prevention and training & development for insurance impacted activities.
