Boone Hospital Center is a 394-bed full service hospital located in Columbia, MO. It is a regional referral center located in the center of the state. The hospital provides progressive healthcare programs, services, and technology to people in 26 mid-Missouri counties. Although the hospital is full service, areas in which Boone Hospital Center excels are cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgical, obstetrical services, and numerous other specialties. The Boone Hospital Center's (BHC), Quality/Risk Management/Medical Staff Services department provides leadership and strategic direction for all aspects of Risk Management and Medical Staff Services.  The Quality department manages key processes and assists the organization in maintaining compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies. The Risk Management department works to proactively enhance the safety of patients, visitors and employees; and minimize financial loss to the hospital through risk detection, evaluation and prevention.  The Medical Staff Services provides oversight for credentialing and privileging processes and procedures, and assisting the Medical Staff Leadership in the development and adherence to Medical Staff Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations including (peer review process) Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Professional Practice Evaluation (PPE).


Overview


Role Purpose

Responsible for incorporating and utilizing methods to improve all aspects of quality, risk management and patient safety. The person will serve as an active member of various quality and safety initiatives and committees. Responsible for facilitating data gathering and analysis from various sources seeking appropriate interventions for organizational/departmental improvement related activities. Assist teams and provide expertise regarding current improvement trends and related improvement strategies. Also actively support all other key aspects of the Superior Patient experience (SPE) initiative by providing facilitative and consultative support for both organizational and departmental improvement projects. Assesses clinical processes, identifies potential risks for patients and employees and develop strategies in collaboration with all departments and patient care areas, WUSM, and the Risk Management and Safety departments.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with healthcare teams to rapidly identify trends, clusters, and risk factors.
  • Assists in the initial investigation of serious events and provides staff with event detail to help determine the need for a formal review.
  • Develops and implements education and training as it relates to enhancing clinical care and minimizing risk.
  • Participates in data collection, data review and dissemination of patient safety, risk and quality information, and participates in debriefings.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
