Role Purpose

Leads marketing and communication activities for the College. With a primary aim to represent the academic and research missions of the school, efforts to direct marketing, advertising, brand management, internal and external communications and website management are advanced. The Director consults with and provides consultation to stakeholders on matters of communication importance and also collaborates with the marketing and communications department of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and BJC HealthCare. The role reports to the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Diversity.


  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Manages multiple marketing projects with administrators, faculty and staff, graphic designers, freelance writers and photographers to develop marketing and communication products, including brochures, programs, posters, flyers, postcards, presentations, and promotional items.
  • Assesses marketing and branding needs through internal and external focus groups/reviews and sets branding and messaging priorities. Creates a marketing plan that reflects high impact branding and advocacy opportunities for the College. Develops marketing and advertising materials (print and digital) consistent with the College's mission, purpose, and goals. Develops and sees to the execution of all e-marketing initiatives: e-newsletters, display advertising, search engine marketing, etc..
  • Coordinates media and community outreach sponsorships. Evaluates the impact of marketing, communication and branding initiatives. Supports college diversity and inclusion initiatives by way of marketing, social media and communications strategies and collaborates with key stakeholders to advance the mission of the College.
  • Develops, writes, edits and coordinates content for internal and external publications. Collaborates with administration, faculty and staff to identify newsworthy stories for dissemination through high impact mechanisms. Develops and implements an internal communications strategy that unifies and advances the mission of the College. This strategy includes the use of policies, protocols, standards, templates, resource guides and training materials
  • Designs and maintains the College’s website: updates and posts news articles, feature stories, events calendars, and press releases. Consult with College and Hospital departments on webpages usage analysis, site architecture, information presentation and content; trains faculty and staff to regularly post updates to the site.
