Role Purpose

The vice president of IT Business Engagement provides executive leadership of Business Relations, Portfolio Management and Business Analysis functions to provide the primary interface between business and IT and enable effective alignment with IT with the business’ needs. Short Term Objectives include the establishment of the business relationship management function to help align and prioritize business priorities for IT, ensure business requirements are captured for IT initiatives, and ensure that the scope of solutions are well defined and documented. Also, a key priority includes establishing a governance process to assist the business in making key decisions regarding the benefits of IT solutions and alternatives. Long term outcomes of this capability will include alignment of IT and BJC business objectives to improve satisfaction of the business with IT’s services and eliminate waste in terms of stranded investments and rework.


  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Establish and develop a formal business relationship management function which supports the needs of the operating units while aligning with IT's strategic objectives, including the ability to: - Align and prioritize business projects and programs that enable change across the enterprise portfolio - Define/review business requirements to describe the business needs - Define the required scope of the solutions - Work with stakeholders to proactively identify opportunities to increase the value delivered via IT solutions - Partner with Service Delivery in improving service delivery outcomes, metrics and responsiveness
  • Support the business through an IT governance/decision process at key decision points. - Alternatives, limitations, constraints and dependencies - Benefits of the proposed solution in terms of key metrics (e.g., ROI, TCO) - Articulate the value of investment in terms of financial business cases, serve as the sponsor of investment decisions and present business cases for approval
  • Development of Demand Management function, including Business Analysis for business demand drivers. Drive a process to prioritize demand across the enterprise portfolio of investments (inclusive of IT investment).
  • Establish the discipline of capacity management that aligns supply and demand for IT products and services.
  • Create a recurring, two-way communication program to keep the business entities apprised of IT performance, project status and strategic priorities.
