As part of Patient Financial Services, Patient Registration (Admitting) is located throughout Barnes-Jewish Hospital.¿ In addition to our patients being our customers, we have many other internal and external customers who depend on accuracy and promptness of the data and services we provide.¿ Admitting Office Coordinators act to greet our customers and obtain data, which is then entered into the ADT or similar systems.


Overview


Role Purpose

Responsible for performing pre-admission and in-house collection activities to ensure receipt of appropriate payment for services provided to our patients. Responsible for facilitating the accounts receivable management process before and during the patient's hospitalization. Provides self pay, under-insured patients with quality, reasonable and consistent financial counseling and refers patients to government agencies.


Responsibilities

  • Performs financial analysis and counseling for applicable admissions or pre-admissions, in order to identify and address any potential problems with insurance benefits and the patient‘s ability to pay. Notifies Case Management of insurance issues.
  • Request payment, as applicable, before or at the time of admission due to unmet deductibles, inadequate or no insurance coverage, uncovered services, package price services or previous bad debt accounts.
  • Documents appropriate financial information into the computer system.
  • Assist patients with account balance questions, itemized statement requests and resolving billing issues. Communicates in a professional, positive and respectful manner with patients. Be able to provide consistent excellent customer service in a variety of situations. Maintains effective communication with Revenue Management.
  • Provide assistance to uninsured patients and families. Perform evaluation for possible insurance coverage or other payment opportunities. Utilize self-pay report to determine charity based on U.S. poverty guidelines and hospital policies. Assist with the completion of Medicaid applications.
