Ensures ongoing support of existing IT systems to provide strong customer satisfaction. Responsible for effective project development and implementation which yield desired business results and the management of capital project scope, functionality, budgets, milestones, and workflow integration.


Overview


Role Purpose

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for the strategic development and management of service lines within a defined portfolio to drive the evolution of IT systems in support of strategic business needs. A Portfolio Manager supports the portfolio owner in prioritizing, planning for and providing oversight of changes to IT systems (e.g., applications and infrastructure) that are desired to support the strategic needs of the business. The portfolio manager is accountable for managing the supply and demand equation within a given portfolio of service lines under management. This role reports to the Portfolio and Program Management Director, though has a matrixed accountability to the assigned Portfolio Owner.


Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • In support of the Portfolio Owner, understand the service line(s) and the external drivers for change, as well as the delivery capabilities (e.g., applications development, infrastructure) that support the portfolio, inclusive of the potential for flexibility to modify the timing and/or scope of requisite changes that are required to meet the business needs. Understand the rationale for change and be able to articulate the risk as well as the communities of people impacted by the changes to the service line(s) within the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with business relationship managers, business groups (as requested), technology groups, and program / project managers, to prioritize and initiate new projects, to actively facilitate resolution to issues, and to provide escalation for teams when project issues have portfolio level impacts.
  • Assist with high level scoping efforts and engaging necessary and appropriate resources during the planning phase, and partner with release planning to provide insight, guidance, prioritization, and sequencing assistance when planning enterprise release schedule.
  • Coordinate with enterprise architecture in defining the long-term roadmap for products, technology, and services represented within the portfolio, and assist the solution architect in initial high-level architecture discussions in defining the architecture with respect to the systems within the portfolio.
  • Understand articulated longer term architecture in terms of the impact on the service / product line and options for solutioning business needs through the entire product lifecycle.
