Boone Hospital Center is a 394-bed full service hospital located in Columbia, MO. It is a regional referral center located in the center of the state. The hospital provides progressive healthcare programs, services, and technology to people in 26 mid-Missouri counties. Although the hospital is full service, areas in which Boone Hospital Center excels are cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgical, obstetrical services, and numerous other specialties. The hospital maintains a 24-hour emergency center with hospital-based ambulance service and a helipad for incoming emergency air transportation.  Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Boone Hospital Center has been certified as a "Magnet Hospital" by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
 

The primary responsibility of Boone Hospital Centers Oncology Data Services is to ensure timely, accurate, and complete cancer data is collected and maintained on all types of cancer diagnosed and/or treated at Boone Hospital Center. The goals of the cancer registry include improvement of patient care, professional education, and to provide information for administrative planning and clinical research. Boone Hospital Center's cancer program has been accredited through the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer since January 1985.This department is integral to the success of the cancer program as a whole and assists in the organization of the weekly cancer conferences.

Role Purpose

Performs a variety of functions related to the collection and analysis of oncology data to develop and maintain a comprehensive cancer database. Assists in other activities of the cancer center program to maintain approval by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.


Responsibilities

  • Maintains the cancer registry program and database.
  • Identifies patients who meet criteria for inclusion into the oncology database.
  • Completes patient care evaluation studies and other assigned projects.
  • Participates on assigned committees as requested.
  • Publishes requested reports as required.
