Role Purpose

Works collaboratively with clinical partners to identify and establish long and short term strategies relating to clinical orthopedic & spine programs (including, retention of existing business and development of new programs/businesses across all sites of service (BJWCH, BJH, OC, SC) with the overall objective of growing market share of orthopedic and spine services both regionally and nationally, and simultaneously facilitating the improvement of quality and consistency of care delivered across multiple sites of service. Partners with operational and clinical leadership to ensure consistent quality of the inpatient and outpatient orthopedic & spine services and protocols. Directs growth of clinical orthopedic & spine programs across inpatient and outpatient platforms and drives programmatic collaboration, integration and standardization. Reports directly to the president of Barnes­ Jewish West County Hospital and COO of BJH for strategic and operational responsibilities. Fosters a culture of accountability, integrity, excellence, compassion and respect as exhibited by exceptional employee engagement and patient engagement scores and facilitates consistency in practice and outcome excellence.


  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Develop & implement strategy for adult musculoskeletal and spine services across all sites of service where WUSM delivers this care through partnership with clinical and operational leaders to ensure consistent quality, safety, engagement, patient experience and growth approaches and measurements are reported across all sites of care, and drive programmatic integration.
  • Support business development and marketing of services across the region and collaborate with BJC contracting to develop direct to consumer, employer and managed care offerings in orthopedic bundles.
  • Create partnerships with clinical and operational leaders (in a triad model) to create innovative models of care. Ensure partnership with clinical and operational leaders across HSOs and through BJC CCE to increase value of services delivered to consumers through use of Cl approaches and mindset.
  • Analyze financial performance of services to various stakeholders such as BJH, BJWC and WUSM leadership.
  • Serve as expert on MSK & Spine managed care needs with respect to contracting though does not have direct responsibility for managed care contracting and track the results of specific contracts in collaboration with managed care and CCE.
