As part of Patient Financial Services, Patient Registration is located throughout Barnes-Jewish Hospital.  In addition to our patients being our customers, we have many other internal and external customers who depend on accuracy and promptness of the data and services we provide.  Patient Access Representatives are placed in various departments to greet our customers and obtain data, which is then entered into the ADT system.

Role Purpose

Provide Revenue Cycle system and process support throughout BJC for registration and scheduling. To ensure prompt and efficient access to hospital care by providing exceptional service to customers during the registration and scheduling experience. Create a customer focused environment through effective communication with patients and guests.


Responsibilities

  • Is cross-trained in all aspects of registration and scheduling. Excels on the hospital registration and multiple ancillary computer systems. Registers, verifies insurance, checks insurance eligibility, verifies authorization as needed, scans and retrieves documents in the Activefax system.
  • Provides expertise in the area of data collection as it pertains to medical and financial records.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with particular emphasis on positive and respectful interaction with patients and offices. Be able to provide consistent excellent customer service in a variety of situations.
  • Proficient on the hospital registration, scheduling systems and has the ability to work multiple points of service areas. Registers, verifies insurance, checks insurance eligibility, scans and retrieves documents in the Activefax system. Provide preparation instructions for each procedure scheduled. Proficient in insurance basics to recognize commercial and government plans and when to obtain a referral or authorization. If required, determine appropriate point of service payment and obtain amount from the patient by utilizing appropriate scripting.
  • Ability to work at multiple facilities. Registers outpatient and inpatients in an accurate and timely manner. Is cross-trained in all aspects of registration and scheduling. Is a resource to front line staff.
