Boone Hospital Center is a 394-bed full service hospital located in Columbia, MO. It is a regional referral center located in the center of the state. The hospital provides progressive healthcare programs, services, and technology to people in 26 mid-Missouri counties. Although the hospital is full service, areas in which Boone Hospital Center excels are cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgical, obstetrical services, and numerous other specialties. The hospital maintains a 24-hour emergency center with hospital-based ambulance service and a helipad for incoming emergency air transportation.  Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Boone Hospital Center has been certified as a "Magnet Hospital" by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

 

The Nutrition and Food Services department provides good-tasting, attractive meals designed to meet the nutritional needs of our patients, staff and visitors. The meals are prepared and served by staff trained in quantity food production, food safety and sanitation. The clinical staff of registered, licensed dietitians assess the nutritional needs of each patient to ensure adequate nutrients are provided to meet individual requirements for healing and to provide education to attain and maintain good health. The dietitians are supported by a group of diet technicians who assist patients with menu selection, nutritional supplements and between meal snacks as prescribed to optimize health.

Role Purpose

Supervises the day-to-day operation of the Food and Nutrition Dept. by following established policies and procedures so that quality food service is provided to all customers. Responsible for the overall operation and direction of the cafeteria. Refers problems to the Food and Nutrition Manager.


Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Monitors staff performance and builds an effective work unit by supporting and assisting in hiring and retention.
  • Monitors dietary operations and makes decisions to improve work flow internally and with other departments.
  • Assists with setting the dietary department's priorities.
  • Provides education and ensures work unit follows proper job duty protocols, safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
