Boone Hospital Center is a 394-bed full service hospital located in Columbia, MO. It is a regional referral center located in the center of the state. The hospital provides progressive healthcare programs, services, and technology to people in 26 mid-Missouri counties. Although the hospital is full service, areas in which Boone Hospital Center excels are cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgical, obstetrical services, and numerous other specialties. The hospital maintains a 24-hour emergency center with hospital-based ambulance service and a helipad for incoming emergency air transportation.  Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Boone Hospital Center has been certified as a "Magnet Hospital" by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.


The Boone Hospital Center's (BHC), Quality/Risk Management/Medical Staff Services department provides leadership and strategic direction for all aspects of Risk Management and Medical Staff Services.  The Quality department manages key processes and assists the organization in maintaining compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies. The Risk Management department works to proactively enhance the safety of patients, visitors and employees; and minimize financial loss to the hospital through risk detection, evaluation and prevention.  The Medical Staff Services provides oversight for credentialing and privileging processes and procedures, and assisting the Medical Staff Leadership in the development and adherence to Medical Staff Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations including (peer review process) Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Professional Practice Evaluation (PPE).

Role Purpose

The Physician/Provider Onboarding Coordinator is responsible for developing and ensuring a positive, efficient, and welcoming experience of newly credentialed physicians and other advanced practice providers. Facilitates and monitors the onboarding process to ensure that key deadlines are met and all appropriate training is scheduled and tasks are completed timely and thoroughly.


  • Responsible for the onboarding coordination for newly credentialed/privileged physicians and other advanced practice providers. Responsible for the onsite guiding and touring physicians and other advanced practice providers during the onboarding activities.
  • Acts as a key contact for all issues related to physicians and other advanced practice providers onboarding efforts between the time of hire and start of work (for employees). Coordinates travel and scheduling for locums and out of town part-time employees.
  • Provides frequent professional contact with physicians and other advanced practice providers for each onboarding requirement to ensure that key deadlines are met and all appropriate tasks are completed timely and thoroughly.
  • Researches best practices and develops onboarding program guidelines for physicians and other advanced practice providers. Develops onboarding toolkits, materials, processes and procedures to ensure a seamless and positive onboarding program.
  • Coordinates tasks related to multiple areas including Information Technology, Credentialing, Human Resources and travel. Gathers and integrates critical information, to arrive at effective solutions; breaks down problems into simple tasks or activities; analyzes relationships among several parts of a situation.
