Role Purpose

This position oversees the operations of the Interpreter Services team and assists with the provision of services to meet the linguistic needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care. This includes the enhancement of services, provider-patient communications and patient/visitor navigation.


  • Manages department for compliance with organization language access plan to ensure effective communication with Limited English Proficient (LEP), Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients, family members and visitors.
  • Manages operations and integrates services by partnering with staff and physicians to ensure equitable care for all patients and visitors. Collaborates with leaders to provide staff with training and education opportunities to increase knowledge of language access services, policies and professional practice standards. Ensures that only qualified staff provides medical interpretation services.
  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Responsible for involving key stakeholders in the management and implementation process of the organization’s language access plan. Develops department protocols and standards to enhance service delivery and access. Maintains compliance with relevant state and federal laws, regulations and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Identifies and manages language vendor relationships to guarantee optimal service standards. Monitors performance and utilizes contracted medical interpretation service organizations for over the phone interpretation, video remote interpretation and outsourced interpreters.
