Patient Access works to accurately and promptly collect required information for registration & pre-registration services to both inpatients and outpatients.   The department also provides centralized billing & collection services using a computeried billing system to generate the patient's bill for all patient services and supplies, receives and processes the payments, applies the payments to the patient accounts and generates accounts receivable reports as needed.

Role Purpose

To ensure prompt and efficient access to hospital care, by providing exceptional service to customers during the registration experience. Create a customer focused environment through effective communication with patients and guests. Accurately collect reimbursement information for clinical care and reimbursement. Ensure the department runs smoothly in the absence of the Supervisor / Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Round various registration areas to observe registrars for mentoring opportunities. Run and review reports to determine accuracy and timeliness of registrations and then provide additional education where required. Train staff, where necessary, on how to collect point of service payments.
  • Adjust staffing as needed based on volume expectations. Serve as first line resource to staff for any questions or concerns.
  • Excels in hospital registration and multiple ancillary computer systems. Cross-trained in all aspects of registration and scheduling for multiple points of service areas. Registers, verifies insurance, checks insurance eligibility and scans and retrieves documents in the ActiveFax system.
  • Ensures updates regarding changes to operational procedures are communicated to the staff. Performs visual quality audits and reports results to leadership.
  • Able to provide consistent excellent customer service in a variety of situations. Mentor staff in most appropriate ways to handle various situations that may arise.
