The Department of Food and Nutrition at Barnes-Jewish Hospital consists of Patient, Retail and Catering Service areas on both the North and South Campus.  This includes patient meal and Clinical Nutrition Services, Queeny Tower Restaurant, three Cafeterias and three Coffee Bars.  It is the role of the department to serve the needs of patients, visitors and employees with excellent customer service.  Our qualified staff services the patients' nutritional needs during their hospital stay according to specified guidelines to improve their clinical status and assist in the healing process.  Opportunities are available for all skill levels from entry-level positions to licensed and/or certified management positions.

Role Purpose

This position will oversee direct patient care, research and clinical skill competency education of dietitian staff primarily, as well as other disciplines if time allows. In addition to autonomous practice and mentoring, this position will aid in development of strategic plans for nutrition care at the institutional and system level.


  • Designs and implements continuous quality improvement programs, patient education programs. Oversees implementation of best practices at site and unit level and system level.
  • Mentoring competent and proficient RDNs in new and advanced skills and advanced nutrition focused physical assessment skills. Education of RDNs via prepared educator designs, implements and evaluates innovative programs to achieve quality, cost-effective, RDN-sensitive outcomes.
  • Advances RDN practice through innovative research, EBP and professional standard development and implementation to improve outcomes. Ensures competency of various healthcare practitioners on the topic of nutrition support.
  • Advances RDN practice through solicitation and participation in multicenter IRB approved research projects.
  • Collaborates to further the advancement of EBP practice in the field of nutrition support.
